1/2 hour before a bunch of Reedies & others come over

Yeah, I got my psychology license, and the wife just turned 32, and we're using that as an excuse to feed people lots of food and beer and send them home drunk and happy. Heck, we might even dance with them.

The internet is freaking funny. I just basically invited all of the Reed alumni I could find who happen to be on-line in 2006 on http://www.newcafe.org. That's already generated a little under a half-dozen Reedies at this point, not including me and the wifey. Crazy. Hope we get crazy. You're only young once, and it's hard to say how young I am at this point.... 32, yarg....

I've been watching this video over and over again and laughing my ass off:

I don't know who does it, but it's freaking hilarious.

Democrats?

Let's dive right in to my new LiveJournal.... yes.

"Dive" in. Great choice of words, considering the subject matter of the latest national political scandal to be cycling through the news is distinctively maritime-related; namely, port security.

So. Let's get up to date on things. It's been recently revealed that the President's office has been making more or less secret side deals with to sell the rights to operate and maintain no less than *seven* US ports with virtually no Congressional oversight of anything at all. Everyone is shocked, no, appalled that the President, OUR president, our "war president" would do such a thing!!!

Personally, I don't see what makes this whole Dubai port deal thing such an overwhelming scandal. Really. I don't get it.

Let me get you up to date on me. I'm a child of the San Francisco bay area. My story is I went to Oregon for a few years back in the 90s to go to Reed College, I get a psychology degree, got married, and ended up back in 'Frisco with a wife and a Ph.D.

Enough about me though. I have a pretty good knowledge of what happened to Richard Nixon... you remember, the 60s and 70s? Something very bad happened to the last president who did what G. W. Bush has done. Nixon spied, lied, and was colossally secretive, and got impeached for it. Sound familiar?

To be fair, Nixon didn't get us into Vietnam. Quite simply, that was something we can thank DEMOCRATIC President Lyndon B. Johnson for.

Yeah. I don't like Democrats much either. That's something else you'll learn about me if you keep reading my blog.

There's something really ominous and fast-moving that's going on in this country right now politically. George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States of America, will likely be remembered as one of the most consequential Presidents of the last century, in my humble opinion.

That being said, I suppose I should outline what I will blog about in the future, if you "tune in," as it were (I guess bookmark my LiveJournal.... that would be cool).

First and foremost, I will write about politics. I'm a registered Libertarian, I voted for John Kerry this last election, and for the first time ever, I am strongly considering voting Democratic *down* *the* *line* in the next midterm election, coming up this November. Usually I vote Libertarian and Republican.

I'm a pro-choice, pro-gun, anti-tax, pro-property-rights, anti-prohibitionist Libertarian. Back in the Clinton years, I had a particular voting strategy that I employed: I voted Libertarian whenever I could, and if one wasn't available, I would look for the 'R' by the person's name. Yes. I did! I admit it. Even worse, I also voted for some Republicans in the last presidential election (despite voting for Kerry).

No longer. I'm going to blog here about lawbreaking and corruption at the highest levels of government. Our Legislative Branch is on the take and has abdicated it's responsibility to provide oversight over the Executive Branch, which seems to be either 1) mentally unstable, 2) absolutely incompetent, or 3) a bit of both. I'm going to talk about torture memos and torture justifications. I'm going to talk about illegal war based on massaged and cherrypicked intelligence data. I'm going to talk about shameful negligence and mismanagement of Federal resources in the HIGHEST levels of government. This president is a disaster.

What straw broke the camel's back for me? I'll tell you. It wasn't the invasion of Iraq and the bogus WMD claims that supported it. It wasn't the cherrypicked intelligence. It isn't the incredible secrecy of this President (well, it isn't exactly that). It isn't even the Katrina response and his breathtaking ineptitude. It isn't the fact that this president has overseen the absolute and wholesale *gutting* of the libertarian wing of the Republican Party on his watch (although that really steams me... Barry Goldwater is a hero of mine)...

No, it's not any of those things. What finally got me really, really, REALLY effing pissed off was the illegal wiretapping. I have trouble writing about it, it makes me so mad (I'll dedicate an entire entry to wiretapping later on, promise).

This president has crossed the line so many times there is a serious danger of the line being eliminated here, so to speak.

*sigh*

Well, here's the deal. I'm tired, I'll add another entry later. But I promise I will add more to this site, I like to write, and if my writing can in *some* small way educate people and get them as pissed as I am, hopefully that's a good thing. Especially if you all vote in droves.

Before I go, I want to recommend the most explosive and enlightening documentary I have ever seen. It's better than "Farenheit 9/11" (which was pretty good). It's by the BBC and it was featured at last year's Cannes Film Festival. It's called "The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear." It's a three hour series, it's extremely well-produced, and the best part is, it's available for FREE on Google Video!!!! So please, if you read this, check it out.

I burned all three parts into VCD format and played it on my DVD player. Get out the popcorn and enjoy yourself.... and educate yourself as well.
